Hotel with great history
The hotel is distinguished by its unique architectural concept combining historic authenticity with modern luxury. The Pacai Palace was included in the list of cultural heritage, therefore even 298 square metres of unique 16th-20th century wall paintings were preserved during the restoration of the palace, some pavement of old Vilnius, masonry walls were retained, the palace facade was preserved.
PACAI hotel is the first Design Hotel in the Baltic states, opened its doors in the Spring of 2018.
This stunning Baroque palace, the former residence of Lithuanian nobles Pacai, was one of the most ornate in Vilnius for a few centuries. Dating back to 1677, the palace had witnessed the times of Lithuanian-Polish Commonwealth, the rule of Russian tsars and Napoleon’s grand entrance to Vilnius.
Combining the noble traditions of 17-18th century bon-vivant lifestyle, historical architecture and vibrant modern design, PACAI hotel enjoys the most privileged position in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, on the main Didžioji street. One of the oldest streets in Vilnius, Didžioji street is dotted with boutique shops, embassies, cafes and restaurants. It used to be the most important historical artery of Vilnius, where majestic State ceremonies used to take place, leading to the nearby square of the City Hall.
Hotel has elegant and lavish rooms, whose walls still remember the mysterious conversations of the Russian Emperor Alexander I and the Lithuanian countess Sofija Tyzenhauzaitė. Their special friendship is said to have lasted for many years. Walk through the halls that still whisper about the grand feast in honor of the French Emperor Napoleon. Imagine all the romance that used to take place, and important State matters that were discussed under this roof.
Challenging construction process
According to Lukas Laukaitis, the director of the construction company Conresta, this project was the most complicated in the history of the company. “No other hotel in Lithuania has such an area of preserved wall painting, we carried out both reconstruction and new construction work here at the same time; archaeologists and restorers worked in the palace continually. To make the idea of the hotel come true, we had brought together the largest project team we ever had. Despite all the challenges, we are satisfied with the result and there is no doubt that such an impressive hotel will attract a lot of aesthetics and history lovers to Vilnius.”
